P-adic Analysis $37 This introduction to recent work in p-adic analysis and number theory will make accessible to a relatively general audience the efforts of a number of mathematicians over the last five years. After reviewing the basics (the construction of p-adic numbers and the p-adic analog of the complex number field, power series and Newton polygons), the author develops the properties of p-adic Dirichlet L-series using p-adic measures and integration. p-adic gamma functions are introduced, and their relationship to L-series is explored. Analogies with the corresponding complex analytic case are stressed. Then a formula for Gauss sums in terms of the p-adic gamma function is proved using the cohomology of Fermat and Artin-Schreier curves. Graduate students and research workers in number theory, algebraic geometry and parts of algebra and analysis will welcome this account of current research. |

A Course in P-Adic Analysis $23.8 Kurt Hensel (1861-1941) discovered the p-adic numbers around the turn of the century. These exotic numbers (or so they appeared at first) are now well-established in the mathematical world and used more and more by physicists as well. This book offers a self-contained presentation of basic p-adic analysis. The author is especially interested in the analytical topics in this field. Some of the features which are not treated in other introductory p-adic analysis texts are topological models of p-adic spaces inside Euclidean space, a construction of spherically complete fields, a p-adic mean value theorem and some consequences, a special case of Hazewinkel's functional equation lemma, a remainder formula for the Mahler expansion, and most importantly a treatment of analytic elements. |

P-Adic Mathematical Physics: 2nd International Conference $160.17 The subject of this conference was recent developments in p-adic mathematical physics and related areas. The field of p-Adic mathematical physics was conceived in 1987 as a result of attempts to find non-Archimedean approaches to space-time at the Planck scale as well as to strings. Since then, many applications of p-adic numbers and adeles in physics and related sciences have emerged. Some of them are p-adic and adelic string theory, p-adic and adelic quantum mechanics and quantum field theory, ultrametricity of spin glasses, biological and hierarchical systems, p-adic dynamical systems, p-adic probability theory, p-adic models of cognitive processes and cryptography, as well as p-adic and adelic cosmology. |

P-Adic Numbers: An Introduction $44.93 There are numbers of all kinds: rational, real, complex, p-adic... The p-adic numbers are less well known than the others, but they play a fundamental role in number theory and in other parts of mathematics. This book is an elementary introduction to p-adic numbers. Most other books on the subject are written for more advanced students. This book can almost be viewed as an introduction to be read in preparation for reading these more advanced texts. Readers who want to have an idea and appreciation of the subject but do not need to become specialists will probably find what they need in this book, while other texts may be too technical. |

Harmonic, Wavelet And P-adic Analysis $140 The mutual influence between mathematics and science and technology is becoming more and more widespread with profound connections among them being discovered. In particular, important connections between harmonic analysis, wavelet analysis and p-adic analysis have been found recently. This volume reports these findings and guides the reader towards the latest areas for further research. It is divided into two parts: harmonic, wavelet and p-adic analysis and p-adic and stochastic analysis. |

Arithmetic of P-Adic Modular Forms $32.4 The central topic of this research monograph is the relation between p-adic modular forms and p-adic Galois representations, and in particular the theory of deformations of Galois representations recently introduced by Mazur. The classical theory of modular forms is assumed known to the reader, but the p-adic theory is reviewed in detail, with ample intuitive and heuristic discussion, so that the book will serve as a convenient point of entry to research in that area. The results on the U operator and on Galois representations are new, and will be of interest even to the experts. A list of further problems in the field is included to guide the beginner in his research. The book will thus be of interest to number theorists who wish to learn about p-adic modular forms, leading them rapidly to interesting research, and also to the specialists in the subject. |

P-Adic Numbers, P-Adic Analysis, and Zeta-Functions $33.65 Neal Koblitz was a student of Nicholas M. Katz, under whom he received his Ph.D. in mathematics at Princeton in 1974. He spent the year 1974 -75 and the spring semester 1978 in Moscow, where he did research in p -adic analysis and also translated Yu. I. Manin's "Course in Mathematical Logic" (GTM 53). He taught at Harvard from 1975 to 1979, and since 1979 has been at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has published papers in number theory, algebraic geometry, and p-adic analysis, and he is the author of "p-adic Analysis: A Short Course on Recent Work" (Cambridge University Press and GTM 97: "Introduction to Elliptic Curves and Modular Forms (Springer-Verlag). |

P Adic Analysis $63.73 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles In mathematics, padic analysis is a branch of number theory that deals with the mathematical analysis of functions of padic numbers. The theory of complexvalued numerical functions on the padic numbers is just part of the theory of locally compact groups. The usual meaning taken for padic analysis is the theory of padicvalued functions on spaces of interest. Applications of padic analysis have mainly been in number theory, where it has a significant role in diophantine geometry and diophantine approximation. Some applications have required the development of padic functional analysis and spectral theory. In many ways padic analysis is less subtle than classical analysis, since the ultrametric inequality means, for example, that convergence of infinite series of padic numbers is much simpler. Topological vector spaces over padic fields show distinctive features; for example aspects relating to convexity and the HahnBanach theorem are different.
