This was the first DVD I bought on the subject. I ordered even before I bought my first guitar, so I was a real beginner.

The pace is very slow, but as a beginner, I liked it that way. It helped me to feel like I had the potential to continue. It was very important to me so that I would not give up.

Some may feel the pace of this DVD is too slow, but if you're interested in starting slowly ... this may be just the right pace for you.

Finally, I started Collectible Guitar DVD and now have over 20, but this was the one who held my interest long enough to make it past the steps of forming wheel.

This DVD is ideal for people who have little or no experience with the guitar and want to start without investing in private lessons (private lessons are a good idea if you can afford). The DVD contains basics such as posture, hand position, a few basic chords and strumming. He even has a basic introduction to fingerstyle (playing with fingers instead of pick).

I made a base class a few years ago, then taught myself barre chords and some scales. I recently invested in a good mid-range guitar (Martin DC-16 GTE), so I picked this DVD recycling. I found myself skipping to chapter 8 before coming to something I had not learned yet. So the title "Learning the guitar Dummies' is relevant. It is ideal for beginners as a supplement to private. For intermediate players looking to gain skills such as fingerstyle, strikethrough, scales and improvisation, etc., you'll need something a little more advanced than that. I found myself more bored and drooling over the Taylor 814 CE, he was playing to concentrate on the really basic concepts, it was presented.

Other disadvantages of the video: 1) his singing is terrible 2) it goes no fundamentals such as selecting and changing channels or some accessories that are useful, even for novices (ie string winders, supplies for cleaning and maintaining the instrument, like a lint-free cloth, a humidifier, etc.). 3) in the video he does not always follow the suggested fingering the graph on the screen (ie on some songs it plays a G chord with 1,2, and 4 fingers instead of 1,2,3 as shown in the table, I also prefer the 1,2,4 fingering, but it can be confusing for some beginners). Apart from that there is a good introductory video for beginners.

I used taking guitar lessons when I was about 15 years. Learned some basic cords and could play a few songs. I had not picked up the guitar for many years. My 12 year old daughter decided to learn to play guitar, so I am my old guitars and started playing again. I ordered This DVD learning guitar for dummies, by Jon Chappell and found it was a great lesson for the beginner guitar player first. Not only I learned something, I do not know, but my daughter sat through the whole DVD with his guitar. Jon has a great way to explain things slowly and easily. I recommend this DVD for any beginner guitarist. Even if you know nothing about the guitar, you end of this DVD. I also ordered another DVD learning guitar and decided that it is not as good as this one. Two Thumbs up for this DVD! The only thing I was disappointed, I can not even find another DVD set by Jon Chappell.

My 8 year old daughter decided she wanted to learn to play the guitar a couple of mnths ago. The middle of October (last month) we bought her one. Surprised to see how she could manage the frets, she now lectures at the school, unfortunately it seems this year. only.
I bought this DVD for her not really knowing what to expect to see this brilliant step by step, simple to follow all directions.
Zooms DVD on the guitar and the positioning of fingers on the frets, etc. to the right of the screen is the cord Chappell plays again indicating that the positioning of the fingers should be.
Having no previous experience to our daughter found this DVD very informative and easy to follow as his father, only unable to properly track in 9th out of 10 chapters when "Fingerpicking" was introduced.
This DVD is intended for any particular age group that beginners of all ages. Mr. Chappell has the experience and honesty shines through as he says repeatedly, you will not beable to play the day next day that the practice is a must all the things that beginners need to hear.
I can not praise this DVD enough that he hss to one of the best if not the best DVD and invaluable to the guitar play whatever type of guitar you choose to play.
If you are looking for a guide for beginners to learn to play guitar i can not recommend it too high. You will not regret this purchase!.

I Bought the guitar for dummies book when I had my guitar. I work my way through the book for thought this DVD would help - I have not spoken an instructor (yet). It is not as deep as the book (there are simply not enough space DVD), but it is very useful to actually see techniques scratch and finger Chapell uses.

I recommend you buy the book with this DVD, that way you can continue to grow once you had lessons DVD.

I bought a number of various "teach yourself" tools on a variety of media to get myself started on guitar and certainly at the top of the boot. Unlike many others, this DVD learner schools in exactly the same way a guardian (very expensive) private. He spends time on teaching not only basic notes, but also different ways to scratch and finger picking (I found that may of the other books, CDs, CD-ROMs and PC tend to ignore the right hand).
The DVD progresses at a constant speed and allows the learner to stop and acquire skills in one area before moving on and, unlike some private music teachers that you run the risk of hiring your local newspaper, this guy really knows what he does. He can play and teach!
I can not say enough positive things about this DVD - it does exactly what it says on the cover!
