External drives are probably the strongest area growth of data storage in recent times. They offer the possibility of a portable repository for all user Precious data, documents, photographs, music and movies. They can also provide a destination for users to backup their files evaluated, if the data held within their internal storage is lost, or internal memory fails. But are they lull users into a false sense of security?
They are available with a capacity of more and ever lower prices. Many are advertised using 'pence per Gigabyte "prices as a lure. However some notes of caution from the recent wave of external hard drives being sent for recovery data.
• Contrary to the internal hard drive of your PC, which runs safely in a rare case displaced, external drives are underway about a place to another and thus they will jump, hit, crushed and subjected to all kinds of abuse and trauma.
• They leak power and / or data cables too easily used to stop them, drag them out of business or expose them to additional risks.
• Contrary to the hard drive of your PC or laptop, which is cooled by a fan, external drives rarely have cooling fans and, in an effort to make them as small as possible, the hard drive (s) inside rarely have much free air space around them. This can cause overheating, with the problems that causes.
• external drives are an excellent destination for the backup files, but this protection is really your data if the files are initially recorded on an internal drive, then backed up externally. If the outside becomes the default location for files to be saved, data are not saved, it is simply to be registered to a destination where it is most likely to be lost.

In fact, when readers inside an outside are invisible to the user and perhaps chose to keep costs down, could they be more likely to fail, even without the additional risks identified above? When the external drives do extended warranties, this may seem reassuring, but remember, the warranty only covers repair or replacement of the disc, not the cost of restoring the valuable data stored therein.
So how can we safely enjoy of these devices, the following precautions should help you:
• If you carry your external hard drive from place to place, protect and treated like the family jewels (the data it contains can be more difficult and expensive to replace than money)
• When connecting to your computer, the position safely and watch where the cables were installed to prevent mishaps
• Back up data on the outside, or use as backup. Backup regularly and religiously, the gremlins know when you have this essential file that you want to backup, but had not really managed to turn!
• When you choose an external, is the highest capacity and / or less expensive necessarily better?, might be a better ability to even small external quality big enough?
• Is it the smaller the better?, Or would be a little larger with a fan or at least some leeway for the interior the disc will be a better option?
