With the success of the first Wind U100, MSI has, fortunately, the thought of revising the model to U100 where it matters? The disk drive. And the new version of the MSI Wind combines the best of the Solid State Drives (SSD) with hard drives (HDD).
The Wind U100 is actually offering the variety sophomore MSI netbook hybrid. MSI's first hybrid to be published is the U115.
What is a hybrid netbook? Netbook features a hybrid makes a disc Standard hard, but with an SSD installed. With a netbook hybrid, a user can choose to run the operating system of SSDs while using the hard drive only for storage. This type of storage has two distinct advantages: (a) maximum performance, and (b) minimizes power drain.
SSD vs. HDD
The hard drives were first used, and are still used in desktop computers and laptops regular size. These devices have a large storage capacity, with some storage drives up to 200 GB of data, although the maximum capacity was netbook stable at 160 to date.
Hard drives have many moving parts to store data, including the motor, magnetic platters and the heads reading. Thus, information on solid state drives become unreadable after a shock. A hard drive comes in different sizes: 1.8 ", 2.5" or 3.5 "and uses an ATA or SATA interface to be useful.
On the other hand, an SSD uses flash memory semiconductor chips to store data. With less moving parts, SSD netbooks, data can start at 20% faster and are generally more reliable than using netbooks traditional hard drives.
The first netbooks to be sold DSS used because they consume less energy. Netbooks with SSDs have greater autonomy and they also tend to be anti-shock. Since Solid State Drive store all its data in memory chips, there is less moving parts to be damaged in any sort of impact. But SSD netbooks have a storage capacity much smaller and can hold up 64 GB of data.
The hybrid U100
Although MSI has not said how long the hybrid wind will last on battery, it is expected to last longer than HDD or SSD netbook netbooks.
The company did not specify the duration of battery life under real conditions, but this "about eco 'mode looks attractive because of the modest U115 3-cell battery. The U100 hybrid wind pretty well the same version of the wind old with its Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz chip running Windows XP, an LED-based 10-inch screen, 1GB of RAM, and WiFi 802.11n. The hard disk is available in two options, a 120 GB SSD 8Gb with a 2.5-inch hard disk, 16GB or SSD and a 160GB hard drive.
