A hot swap SCSI hard disk drive will be used in server hardware as part of a disk array. They can also be used in Network Attached Storage (NAS). The design of the hard drive allows for easy removal and replacement of any defective unit. Although the HDD industry and Technology has a long way since the 1990s, they are not infallible and they are underweight. Because of this, have a strategy RAID good backup plan and disaster recovery is essential if you want to keep your systems up and running 100% of the time.
1. Size And Disc Type
SCSI hard drives are of different sizes (measured in gigabytes) and also from a variable number of manufacturers. The first point I would make is that it is better to replace the SCSI hard drives with as for similar models. Although some hard disks may appear to be the same size, they are often identified or reported as more or less, according to the manufacturer. So go with the same drive model if you can.
2. Trays and trolleys
Each hot-swappable SCSI disk is within a tray or cart that allows for withdrawals and easy insertion. The tray holds the disc securely, usually by the use of screws and slots in a rack in the server or rack. The tray is usually some form of levers handles that are used to make the front and rear disc and also act as a locking mechanism.
3. Easy Does It
Although modern hard drives are tough, they are not immune from the odd bump, bang or static shock. Make sure you follow the guidelines of health and safety when working with these players. Also make sure you make the replacement drive carefully. We do not want to damage the SCSI backplane is not it?
4. Slide In Slide Out
To remove the disc, Non-clip levers or grab handles and drag the attachment to disk. You may now need to remove the casing of the tray or caddy and replace the disk drive. The interface on these plates can be tricky, so take care. Once the new disk or replacement is in place, slide it gently into the bay server. Once you've made contact with the backplane, use the levers to set the drive up.
5. Let the Magic Happen RAID
All goes well, the RAID array detects the new disc, initialize and start rebuilding the data on it. You can see a continuous light of flashing on the disk while it is happening, or you can watch what happens from a software RAID or hardware of the console.
This is a very generic guide on how to replace a SCSI hot swap drive and you should always refer to your manufacturers guidelines and instructions. Server hardware changes quite often, so make sure you check out the server manufacturers website before attempting to perform these steps. Remember, safety first!

This product is constructed of heavy duty metal to hold up in the toughest of conditions. It includes ventilation slots on the front back top and bottom for maximum airflow to keep both SATA and SAS drives running cool and an LED is placed on the front of each drive tray to give the user drive status at all times. Dual 4pin power connectors are used to ensure a consistent power supply to all 4 drives whether they are low power SSD s or power hungry 15000 RPM SAS drives. Also included are dual 40mm cooling fans to keep the drives running in at optimal temperatures in even the most intense applications. The fans utilize Active Power Technology so that the fans only power up if there are drives installed. If no drives are inserted neither fan will power up. If drives are only inserted on the right side only the rightside fan will power up and vice versa. The MB994SP4S utilizes our brand new EZ Slide Mini Trays making drive interchangeability and maintenance completely hassle free. The trays are built using full metal so that they are durable for many lifetimes but will not weigh you down when transporting your data from system to system. And featuring a full cage design the added top drive cover provides added protection while moving the drive. The trays are also designed to accommodate 9.5mm 12.5mm and 15mm drives giving you the ultimate universal 2.5 inch hot swap bay.
