Learning of a Retriever Chesapeake Bay
Do you want a strong reliable dog? Have you considered the Chesapeake Bay Retriever?
The breed was developed in the U.S. Chesapeake Bay region during the 1800s. They are very attentive dogs with impatience if please attitude. They have a natural instinct for hunting and they are strong and agile creatures.
Dubbed as "Chessie", they are considered as more serious and more powerful among other collectors. Their appearance is almost similar to Labradors. They are large with a powerful and muscular. Primarily, these are good hunting companions, but they also make nice pets.
Chesapeake Bay Retriever Hunting dogs are very beautiful capable of recovering animals hens game especially in the icy waters. These collectors are overflowing with machismo that is considered the man Human scavengers.
Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are not for anyone. They are very strong willed and independent. An owner Chessie must establish its dominance over the dog. As a teacher, there must be a strong presence of natural authority over the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. If No, the dog develop dominance issues if it detects the owners are passive, soft, or timid, and they will be very difficult to handle. Managers must be confident and to assert leadership over Chessie pack.
Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are highly discriminating for foreigners and they do are not as happy-go-lucky than other breeds of retrievers. Chess are very territorial and can be very aggressive when they feel their territory is threatened. They make good guard dogs with this innate characteristic. They are attentive and very protective!
Chess are educable but they are very slow learners. They can easily adapt to the basic obedience training, dog trick, but are poor. They can be easily distracted and that can make training more difficult. If you want to train them, are coherent and Chessie train of short duration, about 4-7 minutes once a day. Later, you can go over the dog improves and matures.
They need regular physical and mental stimulation. Exercises are a must for this breed. Chessie need to vent their energy through play and training. Otherwise, they will become rambunctious and bored. It is good for their well-being if they are able to use their muscles frequently.
In addition, they are very good swimmers and like water much. It is an excellent training for recovering the need to recover objects from water. They're fun to play with and their energy seems inexhaustible. A dog ideal for large families with many children, they are robust and do anything for fun.
Surprisingly, even with their strong temperament, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are usually slow to mature. And unfortunately, they are prone to health problems. They are likely to suffer from skin and joint disease.
Chesapeake Bay Retriever can have different temperaments and can be very mild or almost too protective of their family, it depends largely on their inherited traits and how they are formed.

Galveston Bay $19.68 Galveston Bay is the recreational center of the Texas coast--a fishing, boating, and birdwatching playground for the almost four million people who live on or near it. A shallow estuary of about 350,000 acres, the bay supports a rich assortment of wildlife and a commercial fishery that pulls millions of pounds of crabs, shrimp, and oysters from the water each year. Gateway to the Port of Houston, Galveston Bay is also a major corridor for huge volumes of international shipping and is home to the nation's largest petrochemical manufacturing complex. How can such divergent and apparently contradictory activities coexist? Setting out to find some answers, Sally E. Antrobus has produced a book for residents and visitors alike that tunes them in to what is happening in, on, and to the bay--the book she herself wished for when she first came to live nearby. Beginning with a short, incisive history of the peopling of the area, Antrobus describes how the bay works ecologically and how it is put to work, for recreation and for commerce; how nature both contributes to and controls the human enterprise there; and how power and politics can destroy all the bay has to offer. Antrobus serves as an expert guide for those who want to discover hidden destinations and attend events that celebrate the life on Galveston Bay. Her resources section offers a wealth of ways to become active in local conservation efforts, reminding us there is much to hope for but also much to do to ensure the survival of this great bay. |

Bech at Bay $16.28 Henry Bech, the moderately well known Jewish-American writer who served as the hero of John Updike's previous "Bech: A Book" (1970) and "Bech Is Back" (1982), has become older but scarcely wiser. In these five new chapters from his life, he is still at bay, pursued by the hounds of desire and anxiety, of unbridled criticism and publicity in a literary world ever more cheerfully crass. He fights intimations of annihilation in still-Communist Czechoslovakia, while promiscuously consorting with dissidents, apparatchiks, and Midwestern Republicans. Next, he succumbs to the temptations of power by accepting the presidency of a quaint and cosseted honorary body patterned on the Academie Francaise. Then, the reader finds him on trial in California and on a criminal rampage in a gothic Gotham, abetted by a nubile sidekick called Robin. Lastly, our septuagenarian veteran of the literary wars is rewarded with a coveted medal, stunning him into a well-deserved silence. It's not easy being Henry Bech in the post-Gutenbergian world, but somebody has to do it, and he brings to the task an indomitable mixture of grit and ennui. "From the Hardcover edition." |

The Colombo Bay $3.95 In the face of killer storms, fires, piracy, and terrorism, container ships the length of city blocks and more than a dozen stories high carry 90 percent of the worlds trade. This is an account of one ship's voyage and of the sailors who daily risk their lives to deliver six million containers a year to United States ports alone. Inside these twenty-foot and forty-foot steel boxes are the thousands of imports -- from chinos and Game Boys to garlic and frozen shrimp -- without which North America's consumer society would collapse. To explore this little-known and dangerous universe of modern seafaring, Richard Pollak joined the "Colombo Bay" in Hong Kong and over the next five weeks sailed with her and her 3,500 containers across the South China Sea, the Indian Ocean, the Mediterranean, and the Atlantic. En route, this mammoth vessel called at Singapore and Colombo, passed through the Suez Canal (toll: $250,000), then put in at Malta and Halifax before tangling with Hurricane Karen on the two-day run to New York. Here is the story of the ship's unheralded twenty-four-man company; of the unflappable British captain, Peter Davies, a veteran of four decades at sea; of Federico Castrojas, who like the rest of the hard-working Filipino crew must daily confront the loneliness of being away from his family for nine months at a stretch; of Simon Westall, the twenty-one-year-old third mate, who reveals what it is like to be gay in the broad-shouldered world of the merchant service. It is a world where pirates in the Malacca Strait sneak up behind ships at night in fast power boats, then clamber aboard and either rob the unarmed sailors at gunpoint and escape into the dark or throw the crewinto the sea and hijack the ship, plundering her cargo and sometimes repainting her and setting out to do business under another name and flag. It is a world where families desperate to get to the United States or Europe pay thousands of dollars to the Chinese Snakeheads and other criminal gangs, who secrete these wretched migrants in stifling containers; after a week or more at sea these stowaways arrive in the Promised Land either starving or dead. Pollak sailed on September 13, 2001, into a changed world, on one of 7,000 container ships whose millions of uninspected boxes suddenly had become potential Trojan horses in which terrorists could transport weapons of mass destruction into the heart of the United States. Throughout his riveting narrative, Pollak interweaves the insights of Herman Melville and Joseph Conrad, whose masterful portrayals of seafaring make the voyage of the Colombo Bay a dramatic reminder of what a hard and rarely reported life merchant seamen have always led out on the "unhooped oceans of this planet." |
