far exceeds my expectations
I am an engineer who works with high-end computers and various operating systems on a daily basis. I have a work laptop (Compaq 6910p), but this is my first laptop and first personal experience with Windows 7. My old computer was a Compaq desktop Windows XP that I bought about 8 years ago and had no problems (other than I should have replaced the floppy drive several years ago). although I was tired of waiting 10 seconds to open a window, it was difficult for me to spend $ on something I already had. but now (one week after owning the dv6-2170us) I have no regrets!
I have done much research on amazon.com before I bought this laptop. my requirements were Windows 7 Home Premium, 4 GB of RAM (this laptop is expandable to 8 GB of RAM), high-end processor (see [...] - This processor is in the "high end"), a HD screen (absolutely beautiful, even capable of 3D graphics but I have not tried this), optical / dual layer DVD burner, large hard disk (500 GB is more than I'll probably never use).
in addition to my requirements, this computer has Bluetooth, the longest lifespan of the battery I have heard of (up to 8 hours), a remote control (it will come in handy for watching films from my bed, but I bought a 23 "HDTV monitor to take an HDMI cable from the laptop), and integrated webcam (Picture looks good, the resolution ???).
I first focused on the design of the espresso (he is it does not bother me at all, in fact, i kind of like it because it prevents me to focus on tasks Fingerprint - I'm kind of a freak clean) and 15 "would not be large enough (it's large enough).
I am amazed at how fast this laptop works. I guess that's partly because of Windows 7, but it might just be what laptop processor, RAM, bus, etc.
My complaints are that I did not know that the battery would give this notebook a bubble butt (However, I do not bother me because I like how it angles the keyboard for my hands to reach ... as a docking station would be) and you must create your own "recovery DVD" (although it took only ~ 20 minutes to do it myself).
I have arthritis in my hands / wrists in using computers (in general, not the computer) for long periods of time without rest over several years and, therefore, I pay attention to the ergonomic design of our days. i like the keyboard and touch (Mouse) pad on this notebook. I was pleasantly surprised that the keyboard includes a numeric keypad as well. However, I did buy the HP Wireless keyboard and mouse combo elite (for $ 15 at dealpal), which should show in the next day or 2.
Overall, I am a very happy customer (Yes, you could even say that I love)!

Great PC, but rather great for use on aircraft
I think this PC is great. The screen is very clear, it works every time I turn it on, and I the feel of the keyboard.
Advantages:
1. Big enough to read the screen.
2. Display very clear.
3. Keyboard feel good.
4. Mouse pad has me feeling good.
5. Nice feature set.
6. Great price for all of these characteristics.
Disadvantages:
1. 12 cell battery can stick in the back (you may think that's a plus if you use it on a desk all the time and as the angle).
2. It's a bit heavy, especially with the larger battery.
3. It is difficult to open all the way on a particular aircraft if the person in front of you is rough and leans back in your workspace.
4. Wireless is not very good. I have a better reception on my old "g" Dell laptop on the wireless-N router itself. I thought it would be better since it has wireless-N built in.
I also congratulate Amazon for their fast shipping and excellent customer service. I needed the computer quickly for a trip and they made it happen.
Updated: Since using it for several months I discovered the wireless works much better than I first thought and autonomy Battery is very good and worth the extra weight. I love it. I raise my review to 5 stars. It worked to perfection over the months I've had several, including business trips and a two one-week cruise.

Start-2170US DV6
So far I am quite happy my new DV6-2170US. It is not intended to run the software that the tax, but after my first week, he has had good results with I applications. HP technical support was terrible, but I expected. (During the process of operationalizing Office 2003, I been informed that, among other things, Office 2003 has not been oompatible, even with Windows 7 Professional, and my wireless router is not compatible with Windows 7! Both problems have been overcome with a few minutes using my ISP's technical staff.)
I Activate Windows 7 Professional immediately, and I did download the XP emulator (all 400 + MB!) I did not need the emulator to date, however. I can not speak for Windows 7 Premium, Professional, but supports Office 2003 Professional, XP and all my other applications. (Sony Sound Stage, Starry Night Pro, Photoshop, a British-based laboratory data acquisition, property of others.) If you plan to use Emulator XP, note that all processors are supported. (And you must enable the emulation of XP processor in the BIOS.)
You can see the results of performance in other examinations. I'm still trying to uninstall unwanted software provided by HP. Again, except HP technical support, I am very happy.

New DV6 model with new CPU and graphics
If you are looking to DV6 line of laptops that you've probably noticed that there are several new models with the model number as "DV6-21xx. These are essentially the same as the previous laptop models with a new processor / graphics combo that significantly improves performance. Like the previous generation DV6 it is well built with a metal tonic Outside Black (HP also offers versions in white). Take a look at the art shell because it is something that can not please everyone. I bought mine for my mother-in-law and she definitely enjoyed having something a little more personal than the usual drab gray exterior. Despite the glossy exterior, we have not noticed much in the way of fingerprints or scratches despite the helping hands of our children who like to "help" grandmother with her computer.
The specifications of this model are well above what the average homeowner future needs that today (in my mind) evidence with kindness. If you're on a tight budget, you can get what you need at least (look HP Pavilion G60 line). If you have a little more to spend and want some height to meet your computing needs for the coming years is an excellent choice.
CPU - This is one of the first models of HP that sports Intel's new "i5" line of processors. Version short is that it surpasses the old "Core 2" chips and is slightly better than the (also) new "Core i3 crisps. As indicated in the description that is 2.26 which can "Turbo Boost" up to 2.53 GHz. What is not mentioned is that it some dual core with 3MB of cache. This may sound a bit like the old Core2 chips, but do not be fooled: This chip will be better than the old Core2 20% to 50%. If you are trying to decide between the "i5" and "Core i3" I would recommend the i5 to the players and those who perform high-end applications (such as CAD software) and Core i3 for people running business applications (like MS Office) and web browsing. If you want to know more read on. If things nerd bothers you, then trust me, it's great to have a chip in your laptop.
Okay That is why the i5 is a big problem: The i5 (i3 and Core) have the latest Intel processor, faster and smaller (also known as name of "Westmere" core) that is two generations as "Penryn" core used in the Core2 line. Because each generation parts get smaller they get cheaper to manufacture. Also with the Westmere core Intel delivered a new chipset and graphics chip on a package that reduces also the costs (and allows Intel to make a few turns of fresh and new performance). One thing the i3 and i5 Core Core2 have that are "hyperthreading". Hyperthreading is a feature that makes two processors act like four. To do this, Intel has enabled each processor to act on the son of two software time. Thus, both CPUs i5 is almost as good as the fourth part of the CPU for a lot less money and require much less power (there are four some core mobile processors out there but the battery life is terrible and I do not recommend). Hyperthreading is something that every user can benefit From looking over your slow computer to analyze because your anti-virus kicked in. Windows 7 comes as shock off a new thread and you keep hum surf the Web or play a game The main difference between the Core i3 and i5, i5 is that a "turboboost" (which can accelerate your processor or graphics chip if necessary) and Core i3 does not work. If you are not stressing the CPU or graphics chip then turboboost located in the i5 will not do much for you.
RAM - 4 GB of DDR3 RAM running at 1066 MHz is combined with a 64-bit OS, which should provide more than enough memory for almost any application you can think outside of the game extremely high end. Note that most laptops come with more "DDR2" and it has "DDR3". The main difference is that "DDR3" uses about 20% less energy "DDR2" this which of course is equal to the battery life a little better.
Hard drive - 500 GB disc is much more space than most users need (Few people will use over 100 GB). HP also offers disk of 320 GB and 640 GB on some models. This operates at 7200 rpm, but HP has the version that operate at 5400 rpm. The reader of 7200 offers better performance, but the failure rate is slightly higher than the slower disks 5400. I have a slight preference for the slower car just because I hate hard disk failures, but honestly the 7200 rpm players have improved to the point where there is not much difference in failure rates.
Graphics - This model is Using Intel uses new "HD" graphics, which is largely superior to their old "4500MHD" chip. You can actually do a game the 3D on this laptop much more recent high-end 3D games will run at reduced settings. Online games like World of Warcraft will be better managed at reduced settings. It can do 1080p HD graphics, but the opinion of this model does not have a Blu-ray so I'm not sure that matters that much (the only DV6, I know that Blu-ray models are custom ordered directly from HP).
View - I do not like a year ago HP DV6 voltage from a full 16 "screen at slightly lower at 15.6." Also on 1366 x 768 LED screen BrightView display on this model does not disappoint. Inside, it is surprisingly bright with solid black (computer screens Portable light are all too shallow). Outside, you'll have some problems with glare, but better than many competitors. I like that the screen provides a good amount of vertical space without exaggeration. The difference between 15.6 "and 14" Surprisingly (to go and look in a store if you have not had the chance).
Sound - Surprisingly good sound for a laptop. The speakers are well placed and offer a good range. I've heard better, but he was on a $ 3K laptop.
Battery - HP Battery beams 12 cell lithium-ion this model, but most models have a cell DV6 6. If you're on the road a large number of cell 12 is nice. Home users who intend connect a lot probably will not care. Personally, I prefer the cell 12. Cell 6 will give you 2-4 hours of actual use and the 12 cell you give 3-6 hours (HP claims "up to seven hours" on their website but only if you do everything possible to save energy). Cell 12 to bulge slightly in the back and adds about 1 / 5 of a pound in weight.
Operating System - This model of the "premium" version Windows 7. The "SB" (small businesses) have models of Win 7 "Professional" version. Win 7 Premium is fine for most users, but the Pro version lets you save on a network and better support for older software (it can actually run Windows XP in the background for your programs). Most users will house very well with Windows 7 Premium, but if you have lots of old software, you can consider getting a computer Laptop with Win 7 Pro (which will add some cost of the laptop).
Optical Drive: Standard HP DVD / CD RW with LightScribe. If you do Lightscribe not used it essentially allows burning of black text or images on LightScribe compatible CD or DVD. A typical afterimage lasts 20 minutes. It is good to have, but be aware that images are a bit dull. I noticed mine fade but I mostly burn copies of CDs for my children and they are rude on them.
I have no serious "cons" for this computer. The "Touch Media Controls" for things like volume (as opposed you push the buttons) are a little weird at first but we got used to them quickly and well, they look cool when they light up. I can not find not the remote to be useful, but planning to hook this person can love their televisions. I suspect most people just put in a drawer and forget it.
If you're looking at different models DV6 trying to decide which to buy my council is (based on models available when I wrote this):
- For users at home who are not players, you can save about $ 100 if you go with the HP Pavilion 2150US dv6-15.6-inch laptop that combines a Core i3 with Win 7 Premium 6 cell battery. The performance non-game software will be very close to the i5 more expensive models and you can save money by going with Win 7 Premium and a smaller battery.
- If you need good battery life, run the software high end or as a game can go for the HP Pavilion 2170US-dv6 that combines the i5 to 12 with battery cells. The Intel graphics are not the best but it's a big improvement on the old products. This is the model that I think has the best balance functions.
- If the game matters more than the life of the battery, you should probably consider other lines of portable but if you are sold on the DV6 go for the HP Pavilion 2190US-dv6 who has a Quad Core i7 CPU and NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M graphics. It was only a 6 cell battery and the GPU and will drain quickly. On the positive side, it is the only model in this group with Gigabit Ethernet (most home users will be fine with 10/100 [Ethernet is more than enough to surf on multiple computers website], but if you want or need Ethernet 10/100/1000 DV6 the upper end models).
- If you have a large number of older software consider the HP Pavilion dv6-2157SB Small Business Editionwhich comes with Windows 7 Pro (which can run software more old in a core WinXP). It has a Core i3 and a 6 cell battery. It also has a different finish (Plaid Mocha ") but I did not seen so I can not comment.
To conclude the whole thing: you can always buy more features for more money but if you need a computer Laptop with higher-end features and build quality premium is an excellent choice. HP spent money in the right places and created a high-end laptop with a midrange price. I think the HP Pavilion dv6-2150US 15.6-inch laptop is one of the better values out there today, but I prefer the functionality offered in the HP Pavilion dv6-2170US. If you are a student, you can read HPs "Academy" program offers discounts to students (it can be difficult to find on the HP website - just search "HP Academy").
