The good: touch controls responsive, fast i5; light for its size.
The bad: Can an unattractive bulky, old-fashioned design, the battery life falls short, no multitouch in tablet mode, 7 touch Windows environment leaves much to be desired.

Four years ago, CNET has reviewed the Toshiba Portege M400 convertible tablet laptop which was the first of its kind with a processor Core 2 Duo. Imagine our surprise when in 2010 we received the Portege M780, a convertible notebook i5 / tablet with almost exactly the same design.
For the princely sum of $ 1,699, the Portege M780 gives you a rugged, mean weight of 12.1 inches with a firm lock, capacitive swivel touch screen. However, you can get the Intel Core i5 and specifications in the medium term for half the price of laptops non-tactile and the battery life of the M780 is not brilliant.

In 2006, we said the M400 laptop very similar to finding Portege had a retro feel boxy. Four years later, we now say that even a glance "absurd thick, do you-pull-the-laptop-out-of-your-ground" felt. Its design is a plastic mat silver with matte black plastic highlights square around the screen and keyboard that stinks of a half-decade, and the lower half of this keyboard is far chunkier than any recent "ultraportable" notebook we seen.See title = "Battery toshiba laptop "battery toshiba>
Obviously, what happens after a crowd of more Portege industrial enterprise akin to market the Panasonic Toughbook. The design and semirugged seem to match the appearance of a Toughbook, but its heft and a small lightweight plastic bending, we found the chassis parts that suggest a less than robust construction.
The Portege M780 supports buttons physical and wheel combos more key function - there is a volume knob on the front edge, but it does not max-min threshold and run indefinitely until that the volume of board maxes. A row of confusion and little buttons below the same control power convertible swivel screen, screen orientation, and even includes a mini joystick odd repositioning and minimizing windows. It would have been more logical to turn this stick into a trackpoint.
To his credit, however, the keyboard and the old anti-dumping on the conical M780 was one of life's more comfortable typing recent laptops. The buttons are a little soft, but the shape and positioning key was generous and spacious. The touchpad feels little awkwardly conceived; we wondered why Toshiba did not just make more to use more space and palm rest.

We really like the M780 touch screen responsiveness. Using both direct-touch and the included stylus thick, with a joystick is both fast and accurate. Unfortunately, a Windows environment does no icons or other interface elements suitable for touch screen, making some controls difficult to use.
The capacitive touch screen M780 uses creates a small focus point where your finger is going, allowing you to move your pretrack touch a little. With the stylus, dowry focuses when the pen is a few millimeters from the screen, allowing some prenavigation before pressing down and making contact. By pressing a button on the small side stylus, right-click action can be initiated. However, the Portege does not support multitouch, it might be shocking to anyone expecting easy to zoom in or pinching two fingers scrolling. Flick open scrolls seem basic preset scroll movements acting with a slight late and does not feel organic.
The stereo speakers located above the keyboard, were stronger than we needed for video playback, and leaned over the treble-heavy, but they were better than average. The webcam above the keyboard works in both modes of laptop and tablet and had resolution quality similar to other Toshiba laptops we recently reviewed - fine for conferences Web fair for photos.

Toshiba packs a professional table and in the range of Portege M780, including mini-FireWire port e-SATA combo drive, and an ExpressCard slot full-size. Toshiba has not include an HDMI port, which makes sense it's more of a machine for small businesses but with its fast Intel Core i5, the M780 would be connected to a TV HD video and streaming shows easily. Ports flank all four sides of the base of the thickness of the M780, which can make locating a port you want a little head scratching. A fingerprint reader included could be an interesting addition to corporate security.
THE 3 GB of RAM and a 250 GB hard disk are a bit less than we do expect for a $ 1,700 laptop - Toshiba may have hit the 500 GB hard drive and 4 GB memory addition, this Portege comes with 64-bit Windows 7 Professional.
