This game from Nippon Ichi Software (NISA) is a rather obscure tactical RPG that just flows with awesomeness. Even among fans of NISA games it seems that this RPG seemed to slip para. He even slipped by me first! The truth about this game, however, is that it's really cool Ogre Battle clone. If you ever played Ogre Battle, you know how cool it is ... or how frustrating it is complicated (the SNES one, at least), unless you spend some serious effort and from time to understand what happens in it.
First, let me give some basic information about Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen, and a little of his system, then I'll explain what Nippon Ichi has to share things in place for The Nomad Soul. Ogre Battle is a game developed by Quest now disappeared, and was published in America by Atlus as a game somewhat limited edition. Its combat system was to put your units in the online training that could affect what attacks they could do, and how many times they could attack per battle. System movement is a real-time system with chess piece as characters move around the map, meeting with enemy units and engage combat. The game was essentially a stretched campaign to defeat an evil empire and save the world. The story was very convincing, but I do will not tell you much if you happen to play and I do not like spoilers.
Fast forward to the N64 era. Version Ogre Battle N64 is a watered down version of the game, which was much easier to manage and handle. The reason it was so easy to manipulate because the alignment system is dumbed down a lot. The system in the original Ogre Battle on SNES was incredible fickle and a single mistake or mismanagement unit could sound the death knell on your side of the alignment for a very long time. You need to manage this system fickle closely, and make sure you do not make mistakes, lest you face the consequences. Ogre Battle 64 made up the alignment requirements for upgrades much easier to keep in check, which causes the game to move closer to the way you wanted to go, as opposed to how you will permit it to pass through poor management unit and a bad tactical planning.
Fast forward to this time The Nomad Soul. Ogre Battle series Main has not had other incarnations since OB64, unfortunately, and I thought his battle system game disappear forever. Of course, NIS had something to say about this ... Because they are so impressive. NIS released Nomad Soul, which is a game whose combat system, any who could tell you, is very similar to Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen. If someone disagrees with you on this point they were false, lies, or never played Ogre Battle. The game uses a standard system essentially tactical RPG movement, and implements the fight against the line based Ogre Battle.
I'll go into more detail about Soul Nomad and the World Eaters when I have time to post more about the system and how to break. Gonna get back into my schedule at the request, so leave a comment or email me at alsburyt at gmail dot com if you have a request for me to push my article on The Nomad Soul.
