Read this before buying a laptop.
Looking to buy a laptop? Congratulations! So, do you want a laptop Thin and light, a consumer notebook, an ultra portable or laptop computer business? And do you expect in a Dell, Gateway, IBM, Sony or Toshiba, to name just a few of your options?
Still confused? It can really be overwhelming. But buying a laptop did not learn a new language. It just means you need to know what your needs are and what kind of equipment is best suited to meet these needs. Ask yourself two questions:
1. How will I use this machine?
Requirements that you intend to put on a machine that will determine how much memory you need, processor speed, screen size and the size of your hard drive. It is also important how much wear you think you're going to put on your laptop. For example, you'll be schlepping it to the college coffee house, or are you mostly will be using it at home, as a replacement for a desktop machine? Will you be a lot of storage of audio files or digital cameras or other media who eat large amounts of hard drive space? Do you need wireless capability and thousands of devices, such as CD-RW or DVD? Will you make graphics work or watch a lot of video on your laptop, so a fast processor and a powerful large screen and high resolution are important to you?
2. How do I find the laptop that I want?
Diluent is not always better, but then, sometimes less is more. Laptop in the jungle, searching for the perfect machine can be a challenge. It might be useful to examine different models of laptop and see what features each has to offer.
* Ultraportables
These machines are thin, small and light, usually not more than four pounds. What they have in their favor is a lot of processing power or the bells and whistles of larger systems: they have no internal CD or DVD, they have rather small hard drives, and they have displays of 12 inches or less. A good choice for someone on the road a lot which does not require much of their system, but performance lags behind other computer models phones.
* Thin-and-fire
Perfect for business travelers, these phones have powerful processors, 14-inch displays, and features wireless network, over a CD-RW/DVD combo drive. They have lots of memory and hard disks spacious. Compromise: they weigh a bit more (four to six pounds) and they cost a little more.
Mainstream laptops *
Basically, these laptops are desktop computers that can do some travel. At six to eight pounds, they come with a screen 14 inches or more and more power sufficient base in terms of processing speed, memory and disk space drive.
* The desktop replacement
The name says it all: these laptops think they are desktops. They have 15-inch monitors 17 inch plus big enough for gaming or the creation of home movies. They have the fastest processors, larger hard drive, and the most memory of any other laptop available. And they weigh less than seven pounds.
Knowing at least some of the terminology should help you hold intelligent conversations with Laptop vendors. And remember: because technology is changing so fast, you'll never be faced with a computer Laptop missing for over two years!
