There are many technologies competing data tapes on the market data tapes. Thus, the customer must take a prudent and wise decision to select the tape backup technology that offers reliable backup solutions and effective and meets also the increasing challenges and demands of the future. DDS / DAT technology continues to be one of the formats of tape backup leader best suited for medium and small businesses. DDS / DAT data technology is continuously growing and has gained popularity because of its exceptional cost results effective and efficient.

Like other data tape AIT (Advanced Intelligent Tape), SDLT (Super DLT), DLT (Digital Linear Tape) and SLR (Scalable Linear Recording), the basic standard for the exchange of DDS / DAT technology is the open format. Writing data in the format DDS / DAT is the "helical scan". In this method, the read head writes the data diagonally across the tape width data.

The helical scan method has the advantage over other mechanisms. It allows overlapping and different angles for writing the following tracks. So, greater recording capacity of data is done because the guard bands are not essential. The data format DDS / DAT allows for rapid location of data and tracks. To do this, the drum rotation is tilted (vertically at an angle of 6 °). The drum is consisting of 4 heads, 2 for writing and 2 others for reading. These heads are at intervals of 90 °. 2 tracks are written for each rotation drum. The read head checks the data recorded during if necessary, it is rewritten by the tape drive. linearity of the track means the straightness of the track with which it was written on the tape. It is very critical to ensure that it is always possible to recover data.

Fuji has applied its experience to its product line DDS tape. The DDS tape format offers the performance, speed and capacity for the servers (entry level) and items work.

The first generation DDS tape drives Fuji was introduced in 1989. Their media member is 60 meters. Native capacity is 1.3 GB and the data rate of 183 Kbps Tape drives Fuji DDS-2 were introduced in 1993. Their media MP is 120 meters. Native capacity is 4 GB and the data rate of 360-750 kbps

The Fuji DDS-3 tape drives were introduced in 1996. Their MP + + (ATOMM) Media is 125 meters. Native capacity is 12GB and the data rate of 0.7 to 1.5 Mb / s. Tape drives Fuji DDS-4 were introduced in the year 1996. Their MP + + + (ATOMM) Media is 150 meters. 20 GB native capacity and is the data rate from 2.4 to 3.0 Mb / s. The fifth generation of DAT tape drives Fuji-72 were introduced in 2003. Their MP + + + (ATOMM) Media is 170 meters. 36 GB native capacity and is the data rate of 3-3.5 MB / s.
