Linear Tape Open is a data storage system that includes a magnetic strip. LTO has been used as a storage unit Data for the last fifty years, but until relatively recently, in the 1980s as Linear Tape Open has been one reel, enclosed cartridge.
Although both IBM and DEC were both involved in the progression towards the LTO in a single reel, enclosed cartridge, it has subsequently sold to Quantum. This form of data storage has been the best choice for those who need to store large capacity, high speed storage tape for the PC and UNIX systems.
Linear Tape Open was originally designed for two form factors. These Ultrium and Accel.
For super fast access, the Accelis is the perfect shape for LTO. It allows quick access to data through its two coil cartridge. The tape itself is only 8mm wide that promotes speed and reduces the time it takes to access data. It was first thought through IBM. Their product was Megstar MP the first of its kind to pioneer. Unfortunately, this style of LTO was short and not commercially produced.
Ultrium Linear Tape Open and was designed as a replacement for DLT and has a very similar both with a half inch wide tape and a single reel cartridge. This is perfect for those who used to convert DLT LTO without major dramas or questions. DLT were popular in libraries.
An Ultrium drive is designed to have two main functions: to read data from the card and write data. The Ultrium read data from different generations and it will also write data on a cartridge from the immediate generation and previous generation formats.
A major problem that this technology may is to meet with his chief Pin. The leader pin holds the cartridge in place. When a cartridge is not in a drive, the spindle is held in place with the help a small spring. When the cartridge is used, the pin allows the reader a great idea and reliable tape, which means that you can access your data.
The problem arises in that when the pin falls on the spot, this is often a problem when the cartridge is dropped or damaged. This usually results in the cartridge is not loaded. Another reason why the cartridge can not load is due to the plastic housing Linear Tape Open with distorted and can not hold the pin securely. There were a few different changes, and there were not using LTO-pin guide in an attempt to solve this problem.
