The title = "Alesis ADAT HD24"> Alesis ADAT HD24 hard disk recording media is known for its quick access to data and editing functions. At the same time, existing digital tape comes in handy, robust, affordable and removable. To give some hard disk of the same level of utility that tape, Alesis had to overcome limitations such as data fragmentation which occurs in traditional hard drive recording formats.
To achieve this goal, Alesis designed a new method of writing on hard drives, specifically designed for recording music. Unlike writing schemes employed by computer systems, this new method greatly reduces fragmentation of data and the required "seek time", providing a much more stability in the recording and reading data.
Using this method of writing, search and play functions are much faster than existing systems - under 100ms - and data fragmentation which may cause crash is greatly reduced. Accordingly, at very low cost, low-RPM hard drives can be used with exceptional results.
For the first time, about $ 90 for a 20 GB hard drive, the cost of the environment on the hard disk storage is equal to that of the ADAT tape in cost per gigabyte - less than 5 USD. All projects of 24 tracks can be stored on a single removable disk. Finally, Alesis engineered custom drive caddies and protective storage cases to establish today's affordable IDE drives as a medium of exchange for the new registration music.
