Disc Autoloader

Q: I am a high school teacher and I run multiple copies of DVDs for coaches and football for my TV Production class projects. It appears that [brand name deleted] discs seem to jam our power robotic duplicator. I tried to separate them manually and writing titles on them with felt tip markers PRIOR to duplication, hoping that would cause to stick together less, but nothing has helped.

What type of discs you recommend to resolve this sticky problem? Or is it a manufacturer or brand that you recommend that stick less than others?

A: First, I will answer the question of how hard you should buy. You should always try to use the brand of disc that has been recommended by the manufacturer of your hardware. Some drives are thicker or heavier than others - the difference in size can be measured in microns, but may affect your results. For example, we learned that heavy discs generally perform better than lighter discs in fed printers gravity.

If you want more information about the quality of the disc, you can read the comments and forums CDFreaks.com. Their content is more concentrate on performance data rather than printing performance of the disk, but it is a good source of information.

As for the sticky issue, I do research by reading some books on the product website Microboards. According to the documentation of the Autoloader HCL the most common problems when using an ADF disk are static and "Sticky Disc" questions. The static load is often the cause. Not only is this frustrating, but it might shock the robotic arm and to your publishing the entire disc publishing system freeze.

Microboards recommends that you try to eliminate static electricity before you load your discs on autoloaders pins. You can do this by separating the disks before putting them on the pin or, if this does not work, use compressed air to blow air on the periphery your records. (The trick of canned air can reduce static electricity up to 90%.)

Many of our manufacturers also suggested that you "fan" of your disks before putting them in your printer or ADF. Fanning is slightly separate your discs the same way that you fan a deck of cards when you make a card trick. ("Go ... to choose a hard disk .. any.")

A third solution was actually provided by the person who asked this question. He later wrote back and said his autoloader has a parameter that "shakes" the robotic arm to remove additional disks. And, of course, the Autoloader HCL has the same function. The manual said the Autoloader HCL has a "separator disk" under the Utilities Service Loader. When you select this option, the robotic arm stops at the top of its travel and bounces one to three times to dislodge the disks that are glued together.
