The best way to store your CDs

Have you entered the world iPod and MP3? If you're like me and my children, listening a compact disc is a rare thing because we are now on your iPod. But I still have a ton of records I want to keep. I also have many computer backups on CDR that I need to store. So what is the best thing to do with all those CDs? What is the best storage method?

There are many storage solutions for your CD and ideal for storing CD is probably different from mine. Factors such as the number CD you have and how long you want to keep influence your storage method.

Here are some alternative storage CD:

Enclosures CD
Advantages - You probably already have a disk for and they offer good protection. They can accommodate your cover art and are easy to align on a shelf.
Disadvantages - They break. They take a lot of space.

Plastic CD Sleeve
Advantages - They are cheap and thin so they are easy on the pocketbook and easy on shelf space.
Disadvantages - They are thin and do not offer much protection. Plastic sleeves are not recommended for long term storage. I have seen cases where they stick to CDs and remove labels and even the metal surface. Plastic is what it is, it takes a long time to biodegrade when it is in landfills.

Paper CD Sleeves
Advantages - They are inexpensive and does not take up much space. They are ideal for many short-term needs of storage.
Cons - They are thin and offer limited protection.

Cardboard CD Sleeves
Benefits - Paperboard sleeves are much thicker than paper sleeves so that they protect your discs and they are relatively inexpensive.
Disadvantages - they can be difficult to seal if necessary.

Tyvek CD Sleeves
Benefits - Tyvek does not take much space and are inexpensive. Tyvek is generally recommended for storing CDs in the long term.
Disadvantages - They are thin and do not offer much protection.

CD-ROM disc cases - with the lid Flip-Up
Advantages - They can contain a large amount CD in a small space and can help protect from dust.
Cons - reading labels for CDs is a pain.
CD-ROM Drawer
Advantages - CD Guard out-of-site.
Cons - Guard CD off-site. Some people prefer to see their collection. They take up space.

CD Wallets
Benefits - They have a large number of CDs in a small area and can help keep the dust on the CD.
Disadvantages - If a disk is stored in a pocket plastic for a long time or if exposed to heat, the label may stick to the plastic.

Three binders Rings
Advantages - They can accommodate your CDs and CD covers in one place. They sit on a shelf.
Cons - If a disk is stored in a pocket plastic for a long time or if exposed to heat, the label may stick to the plastic. You need to turn pages to find your CD.

CD Spindles
Advantages - They are cheap and hold several hundred CDs in a small battery.
Cons - Sorted by stacking disc is a pain if you are looking for a specific disk.
