I was playing with and testing the full solution Guardian Edge Encryption hard drive for months. Basically, you install the client encryption and the number of your whole hard drive by reading the data and applying an encryption algorithm. In addition, after finishing the initial encryption of your drive, the encryption program will continue to operate in the background and continue to encrypt all new data is written to disk. Apply the encryption algorithm, if you are encrypting or decrypting it is processor power. Once the CPU is processing, the data can then be read from or written to disk.
As you can see, we rely heavily on the CPU to complete its operations before the data can be read or written to disk. Everything you open or launch must be clear on the fly, even the master boot record! But exactly the kind of impact on performance should you expect from this? Here are two sets of benchmarks taken using two different machines before and after encryption.

You can clearly see the difference in performance in encrypted vs. unencrypted discs. Encryption uses lots of CPU power, which is clearly evident in the before and after reading tests. For the laptop, there was a performance drop of 35% from a clear to an encrypted drive. For the office, the performance drop was down even more staggering 45% in a clear vs. encrypted disk.
Keep in mind that these criteria do not use the real world. From what I experienced Most normal users will not notice the performance loss. They are just flipping through Web pages, opening documents, etc. However, users power and fans will probably notice the degradation during intensive disk operations, multi-tasking, or games.
So, is it a way to encrypt your files without impacting performance? Yes! I recommend that you give TrueCrypt a shot. While TrueCrypt is able to encrypt your hard drive, you can also choose to encrypt only what you want instead. The only drawback is that you need to know what you want to encrypt, and you must do it manually, so a complete hard disk encryption encrypt all files on your system in real time, but the impact on performance as seen in the benchmarks.
