Evolution of HDD IDE
Integrated Device Electronics (IDE) interface is the most popular and widely used hard drive. The name IDE represents the electronic and controller technology integrated into the floppy disk drive. IDE has been extended and enhanced IDE (EIDE) technology was introduced with the speed of data transfer is twice as compared to IDE drives. IDE hard drives have been pioneers wherein the controller logic has been integrated on the hard drive. This new change in the hard disk resolved most problems that were related to disk drives, as the complexity and poor signal integrity. These 3.5-inch hard drives were mounted directly the "controller card" and called the paper charts. The card is then plugged into the industry standard architecture (ISA) slot. They were primarily used by consumers who need to extend the storage capacity of their existing systems valuable. With the integration controller and disk, users can insert a whole existing personal computer systems as they can add devices. Throughout this process, the existing controller and hard drive were not affected. There were several problems with the hard-cards. Hard drives can not be mounted in grooves like the modem or video card. Support for physical expansion card has been poor as they had vibration problems because a screw was used to hold them in place. The card readers have been hard for cooling problem and were too large and they used 2 slots bus as one of the touring bus was blocked.
Shortly after the manufactures and designers came to know that hard drives do not have to be physically stored on the controller. Then, the controller was placed at the bottom of the hard disk and the whole set of command and the disk drive was moved from the Bay of normal disc. Cable was used to maintain the connection with the bus system. The cable was inserted into the slot of the bus system, or directly with the interface card. The card has been inserted into the slot's bus system. The hard disk has been directly linked the industry standard architecture bus system. ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) bus is a slow speed issue to be resolved with improved performance and the system's hard drive. Therefore, the card interface controller cards also called "interface cards "were developed for high-speed PCI bus and VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) local bus. The ATA / IDE interface is directly connected to the PC bus in the modern personal computer systems.
Chipset manufacturers then began to integrate controllers IDE chipsets. Therefore, the hard drives were directly attached to the motherboard rather than being connected to the controller card. With the help of this change of integration of the interface was complete. Interface ATA / IDE is simple and straightforward fundamental operations in its database and also describes its origins and expansion of the ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) bus system. Width the connection between the HDD and the system is 16 bits. Thus, in this way the 2-byte data is transferred at a time between hard drive and system.
