Portable Docks
Portable docks are steel platforms that are used with portable ramps in areas where there is no loading dock or available building. They are most often found in rural or remote construction areas, or where agricultural products are packaged in the field and shipped directly to market. If a mobile platform can function as a steel platform independent, it is more common to connect several units to form the equivalent of a concrete dock that allows full functionality of the forklift, loading and unloading through ramps yards.
The first major use of mobile platforms has been seen in New York State in the sector original construction. Construction crews needed a way to quickly unload the car to obtain documents on the site. To trim costs transportation and save time, companies began leasing real estate alongside the yard and with the total separation fences created unloading area for trucks. They installed portable docks in these areas and used portable ramps to connect to the platforms of cars, creating and docks that were literally in the middle of nowhere, but just as rugged and reliable as any shipping dock in an environment urban industrial building.
After this initial success, portable docks quickly found their way into all sorts of applications on site in the construction sector. They also found a second and very important application in agriculture. When apple crops were ready in the past, apples were placed in containers and shipped by rail or truck to packing plants, where they were either in bags or pallets. Grocers began to realize what an exorbitant expenditure of fuel and storage costs have been added the price of apples and other products. Eventually, portable docks were installed in the field which allowed immediate for boxing or palletizing of products, which was then loaded directly onto rail cars or refrigerated trucks. This has been proven invaluable in the struggle to keep food costs in the midst of escalating fuel costs.
Portable docks are also widely used by companies who are leasing a warehouse or a plant and begin to leave their existing space. As staff increases and production increases, these companies often have to add space dockside by pouring concrete or installing steel platforms to work as portable docks. While the cost of each option may in many cases be equivalent to another (depending on the amount of dock space and the number of platforms required to create it), companies that opt for portable docks rather than concrete docks can either resell their platforms later, when they move, or they may simply move the equipment with them.
Many portable docks are custom made to the precise height needed by the client. They can be manufactured either with fixed legs or adjustable legs on one or both sides. These platforms are generally steel interconnected to create a large, outdoor, solid platform. For example, if a client wants a 16x32 dock, 4 or 5 edge of docks mounted, and a boat yard, we will ship 8 portable docks with a splint that will create an equivalent solid surface loading dock concrete.
Using a single platform of steel is less common due to a ramp court may act as a form of dock in itself, especially in yards. However, in some cases where trucks have to operate in parallel to the cars, they have not enough room to put the rail yard in the car. In these cases, a single mobile platform at the end of the yard ramp can allow a forklift make a safe turn 90 degrees.
