Features and benefits of SDLT Super DLT media format

The Super DLT tape is the new extended version of the DLT (Digital Linear Tape). The SDLT tape has multi track data and linear recording mechanism. The first generation SDLT tape drive provided a native capacity 160 GB and 320 GB of compressed capacity. The capacity of the second generation of Super DLT was increased to 300 GB (native) and 600 GB (compression rate). SDLT tape drives are backward-II-read compatible (depending on the disc) with data stored on DLT-8000, DLT-7000 drives, DLT-4000, and SDLT first generation and VS series. It provides a natural path for migration to users of older versions of DLT who want to upgrade.

The SDLT tape has powerful features and advanced to facilitate its users. Several advances have been made and new features added Super DLT in the format compared to its predecessor Digital Linear Tape format. SDLT tape format has reinforced tapes, recording technologies channel and head design. The new technology "Laser Guided Magnetic Recording LGMR" is constituted in the SDLT tape format. Thanks to technology LGMR, both technologies are combined magnetic and optical. So, as a result high storage capacity is enabled on the half-inch data cartridge.

The DLT tape was the formulation of "Metal Particle MP", while the SDLT-1 tape format has the "Advanced Metal Particle AMP media. SDLT 1 tape format can store data high density because of its new technology of metal particles. eMP60 formulation is used by the media SDLT-II, therefore, it features additional media AMP which further improves performance. eMP60 technology advances include the magnetic force that over time the boundaries of the "loss magnet "and thus enables high density recording,

The SDLT cartridge offers itself to progress DLT data cartridge. Super DLT cartridge has structural changes, such as "structural ribs" and "inner circular wall." When we compare the DLT and SDLT tape format, the backup Super DLT tape format has enhanced features, including channel high-efficiency Partial Response Maximum Likelihood (PRML), pivoting optical servo (POS) and Magneto Resistive Cluster (MRC) heads. MRC heads are dense, therefore, they form a group. The advantages of this arrangement are heads MRC increased track density, the transfer speed increased, greater resistance to moisture and temperature.

Partial Response Maximum likelihood is hard disk storage mechanism. During the review the different PRML signal noise valid. PRML not watch the signal peak, but rather it examines the entire waveforms. On the hard drive, sophisticated sampling digital signal is used by the PRML. PRML deals then detects the signal and digital manipulation of analog "data flow" which comes from the disc, the partial response (PR) component. PRML bit determines the most appropriate sequence and then rebuilt as a result, it is the component of maximum likelihood.
