Toshiba DVD MS pair, Windows 98??
Microsoft (MSFT) and Toshiba are the delivery of technology hardware and software required to use DVD players and discs on Windows 98, paving the way for a mass movement should these storage devices of new generation.
Support DVD is now included in the beta 3 of Windows 98, Toshiba Laptop Battery Cell according to both companies. Microsoft made the latest prerelease version of Windows 98 available to testers this week.
DVD-ROM that should be the catalyst for the "convergence" consumer electronics and PCs, can read the headlines, but can not save. DVD-RAM due in 1998, will be able to read both and save.
DVD players can hold up to ten times more data than disks CD-ROM, for example, for watching high resolution movies on a PC.
But for all the benefits technology provides to users, disks and titles to them were slow in coming. One reason: the PC vendors that ship a system with a DVD drive to install special software who understands what the DVD is playing and knows how to control the hardware of the underlying system. When the player is transported to another computer, the software underlying must often be rewritten.

DVD support in Windows 98 includes applications for DVD navigation and playback, an architecture for streaming data, and support of Microsoft DirectX set of technologies for video playback.
Toshiba says it has helped Microsoft to build support for DVD navigation and the provision Microsoft technologies, including technology DVD playback and a reader application. Forrester notes that disk manufacturers Hardie others such as Philips and Matsushita will soon follow suit to obtain the support of their records added to the operating system.
In the news, Toshiba has announced it provides a circuit for DVD playback. The circuit uses the processor Toshiba Timpani I single-chip DVD system. This chip was used as a reference design in the development process Microsoft-Toshiba, according to both companies.
