Modernize or replace?
If your computer up to date provides the majority of your computing needs, with the exception of some functions, an upgrade may be the way forward. Sometimes adding a second hard drive, adding additional memory or a CD burner would obviously more profitable than buying an entirely new machine. So if you're just running in place for all digital photos, for example, an upgrade is probably your best choice.
However, if you try to do something like going to a new operating system like Windows Vista, there could be incompatibilities software updates necessary security, or new necessary drivers. If your computer is not running some software or your machine is not more reliable, then a new PC will be more in order.
Picking the desktop
When picking the desktop, you decide if you need a computer or a budget workhorse. Budget computers are ideal for routine tasks like e-mail, word processing, photo editing and surfing the internet. If you download things like movies and music regularly, you will need to copy DVD's, CD's, or a portable device, because the drive to fill quickly on a computer budget.

Windows or Mac?
Keep in mind that most home and entertainment software is available for computers based on Windows and Mac. However, Apple are great in themselves, with the best reviews consistently in technical support and for their reliable office compatible.

Much of this software is considered as "teaser-ware" and works only for a limited time, if not require an upgrade to be real fully functional. Whichever model you choose, make sure it includes antivirus and antispyware software that will work for at least a year and has the ability to be updated.
Often you will find that the majority of your needs in this category may be fulfilled by free software, check software costs extra. You'll want to include these costs when comparing prices for computers so that you can get a truer idea of the overall pricing.
Security Concerns
There are some points to consider when you think of security for your new computer. When buying, keep in mind that your choice of software and hardward will affect your ability to protect your data. Windows PCs are targeted by viruses and spyware are much more frequently than Macs are. Windows Vista boasts thaana have increased security XP, but it is suggested that because Vista is so new, it is too early to know how safe it will eventually.
If you choose a Windows PC, you really should have antivirus, firewall and antispyware programs for Windows. As mentioned in the "Software Concerns" section, note that the Norton Internet Security, McAfee Security Center software, and others who are included on many computers are generally limited to 30 to 90 days of use. Update, update, or replace the software startup so you can enjoy the necessary protection you need over the long term.
