Samsungs Dual-core CPU Orion Galaxy come this year?
not to be outdone by NVIDIA, Samsung has also moved forward and announced the next generation dual-core processors for smartphones. The name of Orion, will be equipped with a pair of 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 in association with graphics processor cores, which offers 5x improved 3D performance over previous generation Hummingbird.
NVIDIA is also increasing 5X the graphics performance of single-core processors from the previous generation, it will be interesting to see these two processors will head to head see who tops the list. Little is known about the complete architecture Tegra SoC two, but Samsung could benefit from the changes they have made in reference ARM Cortex-A9. Samsung includes a few bonuses, such as 1 MB L2 cache processor to optimize performance, added support for DDR3 memory on board and has three displays native.
Samsung uses the PowerVR SGX GPU with Imagination Technologies, then maybe well see the next-gen version used with Orion. I have not heard from within, but Orion could be the first SoC to get the new SGX Series5XT GPU (which is apparently much SOC Apple, Intel, Sony, TI).
Orion will have access to selected customers in the fourth quarter and production mass occurs in 2011. This means that Samsung will use its own processor for next generation smartphones Galaxy, which should begin before Christmas. Some Analysts have argued Q4 Samsung had a hole, but you must be crazy to think of the nations largest manufacturer of headsets do not miss the period of Christmas shopping.
Another possible client processor may have Orion Playstation Sony Ericsson. Sony Playstation 2 is also supposed Series5XT PowerVR SGX GPU, which means that both devices will be based on similar platforms.

Samsung Launches High Performance, Low Power Dual Cortex A9 application processor for mobile devices
Taipei, Taiwan-(BUSINESS WIRE)-Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the leader World's advanced semiconductor solutions, today unveiled its new 1GHz ARM ® Cortex A9 dual-core based applications processor, codenamed Orion for advanced mobile applications. OEM device programmers are a powerful dual-processor chip platform designed specifically to meet the needs of high performance, low power mobile applications, including tablets, netbooks and smartphones. The new Samsung processor will be demonstrated for the seventh year of Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum held in Taiwan, Taipei Westin Hotel.
Customers are demanding complete Web sites, without compromise on the road, said Dojun Rhee, vice president of marketing, System LSI Division of Samsung Electronics. Given this trend, designers need platform for mobile applications processor, which delivers superior performance multimedia processor speed and memory bandwidth plentiful. The last Samsung dual-processor chip is specifically designed to implement these stringent performance requirements while maintaining a long battery life.
Samsung designed using 45 nanometer technology for low power, Orion is only 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 cores, each with 32 KB of data and 32 KB of instruction cache cache.
