The LG Viewty GT is LG's flagship launch, marketed as an all in one multimedia powerhouse. Highlighting the phone's advance camera features, camcorder and video capabilities, the Viewty GT stands far ahead of its competitors and tries to target a wide consumer group. Similar to Apple's iPhone, LG's model comes with a touch screen and key-less navigation, but with a five megapixel camera which boasts a Xenon flash, putting on par with other camera dedicated phones like Nokia's N95. Although this is not marketed as a smart phone, it comes with all the goodies: manual focus, 120 frames per second video capture, and DivX compatability.
The most stunning element of the LG Viewty GT is its huge 3 inch widescreen touchscreen that supports up to 262,144 colors. With an extremely bright and high quality image display, the touch screen can be used with any object, like the included stylus. The touch sensitivity is superb, although it will take you a while to get used to scrolling - you have to grab the screen and move it up and down, not sweep like most users are accustomed to on today's touch screen phones.
Keeping with the three hardware key theme Apple's iPhone and the Voyager phones made popular, the Viewty GT has a large touchscreen with three mechanical keys at the bottom: End, Call, and Cancel. The touchscreen is truly attractive, although it does attract fingerprints and scratches too. The glossy black keys merge with an inactive display and luminate to green, white and red respectively when the device is in use for an aesthetically pleasing touch.
The right side of the device reminds us that the phone is a fully functional camera. There is a three position switch for the various camera features: camcorder, camera, and playback. More camera keys like the anti-shaking key and shutter button make the phone feel more like a camera, rendering a very unique experience while taking pictures for the user.
Calling and messaging is intuitive using on screen numeric or alphabetic keypads, similar to those on conventional mobile phones, albeit without physical keys. Typing is assisted through the vibrating feedback feature which responds to your prompts. The messaging tools also feature a handwriting input, although its response is slightly slower than the virtual keyboard's.
LG's proprietary Internet browser is perhaps the best browser on any mobile phone in the market today. You can view full sized pages on a small scale and then zoom in to relevant pages. Web pages load extremely quickly, in fact, with in-built HSDPA, you can download pages at rates as high as 1.8 Mbps, as fast as any broadband connection you have at home.
The LG Viewty GT is an exquisite phone. It allows you to take high quality photos and videos and boasts an impressive HSDPA 3.5G networking capability. Along with an easy to use touchscreen interface, this is LG's best phone to date.
