DVDs are also referred as digital versatile disc or digital video disc and are much similar to CDs. DVDs are taking place of CDs in homes and offices because of their incomparable features like six times storage capacity, better sound and video quality. When you go to buy DVD in the market or order online, you get two options to select from. These options are DVD minus R and plus R. Though the main use of DVD+R is to record and access the recorded audio, video or data whenever needed but plus R have extra edge over DVD-R.

Though there is no difference in physical appearance of both but functional characteristics make them different. The stored data over DVD minus R can't be replaced, edited or deleted. These are mainly compatible with computer DVD burned format. Comparatively, DVD minus R costs less than DVD+Readable. A SL (single layer) DVD minus R can store the data up to 4.384 GB within 2,298,496 data sectors while DL (double layered) DVDR has the capacity of storing 7.957 GB data within 4,171,712 data sectors. The DVD-R formats have approval seal of DVD Forum founded by Hitachi, Time Warner, Mitsubishi and Sony.

Though, the storage capacity of both DVDs are same but these are more costly than DVD minus R. DVD plus Rs are compatible to more mediums in comparison to DVD minus R. Address in pregroove system (ADIP) of CD Readable is less susceptible to error or interference than Land Pre Pit (LPP) system used in DVD-R. Plus R give freedom to edit the data in full or in part whenever required. DVD Readable has comparatively more reliable error free recording system than DVD-Requirement, so the data burning over Plus R doesn't get much affected with the quality of primary source. DVD readable allow the recording partially from the PC and partially from television. The technical aspects of DVD+Rs formats have the approval of DVD read & write Alliance having Sony, Philips, Dell, Yamaha and JP like renowned members.

So, the selection between DVD-Readable and DVD-Readable depends upon the nature of use. If you want to record the data permanently, you may option for DVD-R but if you are looking for freedom in the usage plus R is the better option.
