Everyone knows that fast food restaurants do not contain ingredients of the highest quality when it comes to nutrition and the recent publicity regarding Taco Bell needs to have a little more focus. Taco Bell may not be the nutrition hub of the Americas but you can find much worse walking into any other fast food joint no matter where you are. Now that there has been focus on Taco Bell, the company has started to put healthy choices on its menu to better serve customers. While it is still not living up to what it could be, the first steps are now being taken and that's a big improvement.
When you visit Taco Bell, you can compare it to places such as McDonald's or Jack in the Box and you'll find that Taco Bell's nutritional content is much higher than either of the two fast food joints. Did you know that a chicken sandwich at McDonald's actually contains double the calories than Jack in the Box's Quarter Pounder? Also take a look at Jack in the Box's Ultimate Cheeseburger; it has 15 teaspoons full of fat in every single burger.
It's true that you can find calorie filled items at Taco Bell and you do have to be careful when choosing what you want to eat. For example, the Fiesta Salad sounds nutritional, right? The truth is this salad contains more fat and calories than the Big Mac! You may think you are making a healthy choice but you have to check the ingredients and what is being added that makes it so bad. Just because you order the "salad" does not mean you are making a healthy choice. A lot of fast food chains like to give healthy names to items but that is usually as far as the nutritional value goes.
Taco Bell is not the worst restaurant in town but making the choice is up to you; you have to take responsibility when it comes to your eating choices. Although Taco Bell does not offer the highest in quality of nutritional content, there are things you can do to make your choice healthier when you order. The good thing is that with the obesity epidemic in our country, consumer groups are demanding a ban on saturated fats, and this is the main ingredient in most fast food menus. Success has not been achieved but it will sure change the appearance of menus when you visit your favorite fast food joint.
We can only find out in time whether any of these changes will be implemented in these fast food joints that not only include Taco Bell but McDonald's, Jack in the Box, and Burger King.
