The Difference Between Regular And Large Format Copiers

The cost of large format copiers is astronomical but they serve a purpose which a normal copier cannot replicate. A normal sized copier usually has a maximum copy size of A3 which is good enough for everyday needs at the office. But if you need to print 42 inch or wider then you need a large format copier. A wide copier does not use stacks of paper but instead it uses a roll of paper which can handle various large print formats.

Usually wide format printing is required by people such as architects who need to print out large CAD drawings and building plans. Of course there are other uses such as banner and poster printing.  Wide colorful prints can give you the visual impact at important business sales to help win impress clients. Wide format copiers differ in size and function. Some are multifunctional, meaning they can scan, print and copy.

Firstly you should decide what functions you need and list your primary usages before buying a copier. Are you looking for high precision and color quality? Or perhaps all you require is a fast machine which can handle big tasks? You may want to consider a copier that is capable of a number or tasks. This will help to save you money and room, in the office or home.

An all-in-one copier will give you the option to print from your computer or direct from a memory card. Furthermore it will save you the headache of having to configure lots of separate machines that an all-in-one machine can do. Compared to having multiple machines, a wide copier can save you space but don't be mistaken. You'll find that wide format copiers require a large amount of space. Make sure you have enough room to install one first. In most cases however, a wide copier will need professional installation which may cost a little extra.

Canon and HP are both manufacturers of a range of large printers and copiers. In addition, they manufacture standard printers, copiers and scanners. Because large format printers can be pricey you should calculate whether buying one really saves you money in the long run. Outsourcing your large copying or printing might actually be a cheaper option. Because there's not just the cost of buying a printer to consider, there's the cost of continual printing. Each time you replace an ink toner or cartridge it's another expense.  

Two other expenses you should calculate are paper and routine maintenance. Yes, there are lots of drawbacks to buying a wide printer when you consider that a print shop could easily do the same job. Many print shops have large copiers installed and are competitive in pricing even for small jobs. However, if time is of the utmost importance to you and you need things done quickly, then you should buy a wide copier.

You never know what's going to happen when you rely on another company to do a job for you and if you have important clients to satisfy, it may not be a risk worth taking. The economy has taken a bashing and in these times you've really got to stand out from the rest to succeed as a company.
