You need to audit what they fabricated before and especially take a look on PCB shop lamination technology. PCB lamination is the “core” of high layer count success story. My thing of high layer counts PCB is still preferably using “Pin Lamination” method.

Secondly, PCB shop will tell you they have so and so much Sq. feets of capacity per month. In order to validate that, you need to understand how many drillers do that have, which is the common bottleneck process at PCB shops. Simple reason for that, a good Japanese 6 spindle driller might cause PCB shop ton of money to invest. PCB shop will invest “just good” for the drilling process. You should check out PCB shop drilling capacity first before verifying their total Sq. feet /per month as claimed.

Third point: You must also check how frequent PCB shop checks their copper plating process. For this case, PCB supplier can perform x-section to measure the thickness control of their copper plating process. The copper plated on plated through hole is the “KEY” to a reliable electrical connectivity. You do not want your PCB layer break down because of just an unreliable via copper pad and hole connection.
