If you are looking to upgrade your computer and install an internal drive, there are plenty of options to consider. The market is full of competing drives that all claim to be the best on the market. The best internal hard drives offer a good dollar-to-gigabyte ratio, but it is also important to find a drive that is reliable and offers top-drawer read/write speeds.
One drive that offers all of the above is Western Digital's Caviar Black 1TB Hard Drive. It features 1 terabyte of storage space, which translates to about 1,000 gigabytes - more than most will require. Along with its size, it also offers a 7,200 RPM rotational speed, 32MB of disk cache, and a solid 5-year warranty. Besides that, consumers have lauded its reliability, and it also offers impressive sequential throughput, and access times of about 10-12ms. All things considered, it is the best drive on the market, though not by a big margin.
The reason it is not the best by a big margin is because Samsung's Spinpoint F1 1TB Drive is nipping at its heels. It offers many of the same features - the supersized 1 terabyte hard drive, 32MB of disc cache, a 7,200 RPM rotational speed - and is available for basically the same price. It really only falls short due to its slightly less impressive three-year warranty, but that hasn't stopped it from getting fantastic reviews across the board.
Those looking for an even larger drive should consider the simply massive Hitachi Deskstar 2TB Drive. It offers twice the storage space of the aforementioned pair at slightly less than double the price, making it a better value. That said, most will not need that much space. If you do, however, this is the internal hard drive for you.
When it comes to choosing an internal hard drives, there are obviously a number of options to consider, but you must remember that storage space is paramount and it is better to have too much than too little. This impressive trio should do the trick for almost anyone in that department.
