SDLT tape format is best suited for departmental backups and data centers. Magnetic and optical recording mechanisms have been employed in the high capacity SDLT tape format. The data recording heads have been precisely aligned in Super DLT tape technology with the utilization of Laser guided magnetic recording (LGMR) process. POS (Pivoting Optical Servo) is an advanced servo system, which is the core of the LGMR mechanism. Pivoting optical servo system combines the laser servo guiding and high density magnetic recording mechanisms to further elevate the resistance of SDLT tape media. The pivoting optical servo enhances the robustness and resistance of SDLT tape against external environmental influences including pollutants, humidity, and temperature.
SDLT tape cartridges deliver excellent performance during heavy duty cycles. POS technology has helped to lower the manufacturing costs of SDLT tape cartridges. Optical servo is also deployed on the SDLT tape's backside to further enhance its capacity, as the entire surface of recording media becomes readily available for data storage. Optical tracking laser moves along the media's backside when the tape reel passes through the POS. High speed SDLT tape technology assures long-term investment protection, greater reliability and low operational costs. SDLT data tapes are ideally designed for departmental backups, remote offices and data centers.
