Netbooks, or mini-laptops Have you been looking for one of the smaller notebook or netbook mini laptops for schoolwork. Many students are brining their computers to the classroom to take notes and in some cases record lectures. If you plan on taking a lot of notes during your classes, you should contact your professors and ask their permission to use your computer during class. From what I am hearing, most will readily comply. Also, many schools and colleges now have campus-wide wifi service so there should not be any problem using your laptop in either dorms or classrooms. Wifi is a wireless local area network service that uses high frequency radio signals to transmit and receive data. It permits direct communications between one computer and another without going through a central access point.
Netbooks Netbooks are big this year. They are small and less powerful. They are very good for keeping in touch with email and using the Internet. They respond quickly, come with lots of storage, and are compatible with most desktop peripherals. They have many of the same features of a larger laptop and are wireless to boot. One drawback is the small screen size. With the smallest screens you will find yourself doing a lot of vertical and horizontal scrolling to see the full screen. This may not be to your liking and so shop around and give anything you plan to buy a good workout in the store before the checkout.
If you can't decide on whether to get a netbook, a notebook, or a regular laptop there are several things you will have to consider:
Battery life is one very important consideration. You can't always find an electrical outlet when you need to use it so, ideally you want the most powerful battery you can find with the longest hours rating, typically this will be five hours to eight hours.
If your purpose in buying a computer is to play games and use other graphics capabilities such as films on DVD or photo editing you need a heavy duty laptop or desktop computer with lots of memory and a robust processor or CPU (central processing unit).
Acer and ASUS are two of the biggest manufacturers of netbooks and some say, the leaders in the field. Either of these two computers and would be a good benchmark with which to evaluate anything you may want to buy.
One big difference you should note is the fact that newer models are now offering SSD (solid state drives) and HDD (hard disk drive) data storage. HDD drives have been around a long time and have proven themselves to be reliable but they are the old technology. SSD drives on the other hand are based on microchips and have no moving parts. They are quicker and quieter than HDD drives and would be my choice for data storage.
