This hypothetical computer design was devised by the British mathematician Alan Turing in 1935. Looking back, it becomes clear that what drove the computer industry for most of its history was its growth. Today, the process of making a computer has been extensively studied and documented, and most parts of a computer are manufactured and put together by machine, with little need for human operators. If you just want to do email and surf the Net, even today's inexpensive computer will do the trick. Most computers today come with an Intel Pentium 4 processor. If video is what you are into there are two video components in a computer: the video board and the monitor.
On cheaper computers the video board is integrated with the motherboard. This is not necessarily bad, but if you want to work with videos or high-speed graphics like those found in computer games, you will want to have a separate video board with as much memory as possible. A writable CD drive is a must in today's computers. If you want to watch videos on your computer or you have a video camera, you will want a DVD drive. Programmers
There was a time when many people believed that computer programmers would be in demand forever, because computers will always need programs written for them. The software to run on those computers doesn't need to be written anymore because it already exists. Any software you might need to do any computer task you could want is readily available, perhaps free online, or for sale in a store. Indeed, it has become standard to ship computers with a standard set of applications: A word processor, a spreadsheet, a web browser, an e-mail client, and perhaps a data base program or a presentation program. Time and experience have shown that this basic set of software satisfies most users' needs for computer software.
